Very special double-header: Woodpigeon visits from Calgary to see a slice of Scotland with his friend Withered Hand, who will be playing his (their) first full-band Glasgow date since last summer…
WITHERED HAND (SL / Fence Records / Absolutely Kosher). You know who I mean. True son of Edinburgh. Scraggly sinatra of the Slateford night. Sudsy Bear. He’s got new songs! They’re not recorded, anywhere – you won’t find them on youtube – you won’t see them in the blogosphere – if you want to hear them, you’re going to have to hear them here!
WOODPIGEON (End of the Road Records) is Canadian, but a long time ago he lived in Scotland. Contrary to what ornithologists may tell you, Woodpigeon in fact shares a common lineage with Eagleowl. Woodpigeon makes Sufjan-esque chamber pop and has toured with Broken Social Scene, Iron & Wine, Grizzly Bear and Calexico.
DE SELBY is a new name for Alistair Beith (sometime of the Second Hand Marching Band, sometime of Tannahill) accompanied by a mighty brass section comprising Pete, Ross and Rich of SHMB/Benni Hemm Hemm. This will be Alistair’s debut outing in this capacity! Rough demos foreshadow greatness.
